Car thieves look for the easiest target. You do not need to make your car impossible to steal, only harder and slower to steal than the next one. The best way to do that is to stack several layers, so beating one system is not enough.
1. Fit an alarm with an immobiliser
A siren draws attention, but an immobiliser is what stops the engine from starting. Choose an alarm that does both, and ideally one that also alerts your phone, because a siren in a parking lot is easy to ignore.
2. Add a PIN ignition lock
A 4-digit PIN lock means even a copied or stolen key will not start the engine. You can change the code yourself, so give it out only when you must, and change it after a garage visit.
3. Track the vehicle
A GPS tracker shows where the car is at any moment and lets you set geofences, so you get an alert if the car leaves home at night. On supported trackers you can also cut the engine remotely.
4. Hide a backup recovery tracker
Experienced thieves often look for and disable the main tracker. A small, wire-free recovery tracker runs on its own battery and is hidden separately, so you still have a way to find the vehicle.
5. Protect against jamming
Signal jammers can block a tracker from reporting. Anti-jamming units detect this and can respond, for example by immobilising the vehicle where it is supported.
6. Check your keys after buying a used car
You never know how many copies of the key exist. A duplicate key check shows how many keys can start the car and disables any you do not hold.
7. Keep good habits
- Park in well-lit, busy places or secure parking where you can.
- Do not leave the logbook, spare key or valuables in the car.
- Lock the car and arm the alarm every time, even for a quick stop.
- Save our numbers in your phone so you can call quickly if something happens.
If your car is stolen
Call us straight away and report the theft at the nearest police station. We pull the vehicle's location and trip history so it can be shared with the officers handling the case. Do not try to recover the vehicle yourself.
